Check Out The 2014 Top 10 Interior Design Trends

February 20, 2014 Rachel

There are billions of personalities out there, and quite frankly the same number of different interior decorating styles. People take a little from here and there, and they develop their own personal sense of decor. Still, with all the different collaborations, there are those trending ideas that step to the forefront. Check out the 2014 top 10 interior design trends.

1. Corduroy, velvet and suede

Simple linens and even cotton was popular in the recent past, but that is no longer the style. Perhaps you still favor the simple, and to each his or her own. But, this is just alerting you to the trending velvet, corduroy and suede that really bring out a certain character in a room. It speaks warmth and welcome, and these items are truly classy.

2. Floral patterns

Now this is a trend that is familiar to the list. Floral patterns are often popular, yet they change in the styles that are trending. For example, you’re not going to use old flower prints and designs. Think modern, abstract even, and also consider Hawaiian flowers and colors. Although, don’t mistake Hawaiian for those old-school Hawaiian shirts that everyone used to wear.

3. Think modern and get creative

Yes, an idea comes in at number three on the list, but you’re going to see this idea explained. For example, 2014 is modern and people like to take risks with design. So the “risk” is the trend, allowing yourself to pull out your creativity. People are using different colors within design schemes and just going a little wild with textures and appearances. How can you make your space unique, modern and contemporary?

4. The rustic charm

While not all spaces should pull of the rustic look, this is definitely hot. Even in the most contemporary and ritzy places, some rustic decor can fit its way in for sure. Still, the whole rustic theme when approaching interior decorating can definitely stand alone. From mesquite coffee tables to that rustic hardwood floor and fireplace with old-style mantle and more.

5. Minimalism

While many of the trends mentioned so far haven’t had much to do with minimalism, there are different themes remember and also different ways to handle different rooms in your home. For instance, if you have a smaller bathroom, you might want to be a minimalist when it comes to decorating your bathroom.

6. Go with art

For goodness sake, don’t just put out framed prints and photographs. This isn’t grandma’s house so go ahead and get some creative art on the walls.

7. Cowhide and other natural materials

Cowhide is trending, and you can get this in different patterns, colors and textures of course. Other natural materials incorporated into furniture and furnishings are also quite popular.

8. Deep colors

Out are the light colors and trending are the navy blues and burgundies. Start with a dark furniture item, and then take to the walls for matching decor.

9. Black furniture and appliances

Face it, while Apple was trending previously in white, now it’s time for black to be ushered back in to the picture. Black electronics, appliances and furniture are very much trending.

10. Turquoise color

This color needs a section all of its own. This has been recently spotted in more and more decor schemes on walls and on furniture, in art and more. See how you can incorporate turquoise into your color scheme in a room or two.
