Design your Bathroom to Look Like a Spa

June 16, 2014 Rachel

If you have always wanted a relaxing retreat in the comfort of our home, why not design your bathroom to look like a spa? There are many things you can do, to create the spa-like space if you are planning on doing any update work in the bathroom. With a few simple changes, even if you are on a low budget, you can create a great looking space, one that you can really enjoy, and one that is going to allow you to relax entirely when you need to take some time out just for you.

Warm accents

Wood panels are a great addition. Not only do they give the room the spa like feel, they also provide that Asian inspired, minimalist, relaxing air to the room, that solid paint colors, or solid plaster wall material is not going to provide in that area.

Bring in nature

The right texture can do wonders in the space. Incorporate some of the outdoors and nature in to the bathroom with wood panels, flooring, or adding stone to the sink or vanity area. A pebbled tile not only looks good, but feels relaxing and comfortable as well directly below your feet when you are redoing the home.

Float the vanity

This is a simple one; not only does it allow you to do your flooring from wall to wall, it creates a more open, airy space, so your bathroom is going to feel and look lighter, is going to look more open, and is going to feel more relaxing each time you step foot inside of it.

Open the vanity

If there is no plumbing below, and it is being used to store items like towels, soap, and other spa materials, you might as well expose these. Not only will it create a larger, more open feel, it is also going to allow you to see those comfortable spa items, that you are going to be using each time you are in your bathroom.

Crisp white

Any spa you walk in to, is likely to have white tiles near the spa or sauna, and bright lights. So, why not do the same in your space? You can easily create that open, comfortable, and relaxing feel, each time you step foot in to the bathroom to take a shower, or to sit in the tub and soak for a bit.

Continuity

If you are planning on using tile, try to do it from floor to ceiling. A simple white tile, that extends to the walls, as well as to the ceiling, will easily make the room look and feel larger, plus it is going to make for a more comfortable, relaxing, and neutral tone, each time you step foot in to the bathroom.

Sinking tub

If you have it in the budget, and have the space, consider a sinking tub. Nothing is going to feel more like walking in to the spa, or sitting in the relaxing area, than having the same exact thing in your home. Not only can you relax, you can add depth by using a lighter colored floor, or you can add seating spaces inside of the tub, to really bring out the comfort and relaxation that you are hoping for.

A fireplace

This is another that is for the home owner that has a little more of a budget to work with. A fireplace is one of the best items you can find if you want to relax; while soaking in the tub you can use the electric fireplace to help create serenity in the room, and it can add depth and style to any space that was otherwise bland or dark in the home.

There are so many ways to create the spa like feel in your home; the more money that you have to work with when you are decorating, the easier it is going to be on you to create that fun, comfortable place right in your own home. But, even if you do not have much to spend, there are a few simple changes that you can make, to recreate the space, and have your own spa right in the comfort of your own home when you are redecorating.
