Eliminate unnecessary information

Feb 24, 2022 Loren

Few people know how to write a great CV, exactly how it works and how to make an employer favour you. Consider zipjob resume review and a few rules on how to stand out and get more responses from employers.

Only write about experiences that are relevant to you

Don't give a full curriculum vitae. Old experience will only make it harder for the recruiter to assess whether you are the right person for the job. Only describe experiences and responsibilities that clearly demonstrate that you are an impeccable candidate for the job.

Focus on accomplishments

Almost all applicants have the right ability and do the same duties. What is more necessary are the indicators that you will be able to achieve with these abilities. If you just list what the applicant has done in different positions, the employer does not understand what exactly has been done for the company and what value he or she has brought to the company. In your resume, it is important to demonstrate your value as an employee. Explain how your performance benefited the company indirectly.

Merit should be on your resume. It is fundamental to highlight your merits.

Refine the wording of your CV

A CV is a sales and marketing tool for the candidate. Phrases like "participated in design development", "participated in a project", "participated in a marketing campaign" are likely to indicate your insecurity and desire to hide behind the team or manager. Keep a balance between what you did in the team and what you did personally. There should be a lot of "I's" in the resume, so it is clear what the candidate has done personally.

Attract attention

A recruiter wastes approximately 10 seconds on one resume. The first thing he sees is the job title, position, abilities and the title of the previous employing company. If he thinks the information on the resume is inconsistent with the accepted standards of the position for which he is counting, the resume goes in the trash.

Make the recruiter want to stop at the CV. To this end, read the job requirements, job title and keywords. It contains all the information you need. Paraphrase your own previous experience, using words from the job description. As a result, you will hook the employer from the first lines, and they will continue to read your CV.

Put together a variety of resumes

You can't put together one universal CV and get lots of responses to it. It's important your resume should match the job opening exactly. So for jobs that top your sample, put together a different resume that will give the employer an understanding that you are the perfect employee for the company.

Eliminate unnecessary information

Do not include gender, age, number of children or home address on your resume. Mention hobbies only if they are job-relevant or if you have developed a strong interest in them. Do not put employers' contacts in the public domain. Do not write the usual phrase: "I will provide references upon request".

Write a cover letter

This is a great way to get attention and communicate your true motivation for working for the company. Don't keep your letter down to a formality. Keep it simple and to the point, talk about relevant projects and show how your experience relates to the company and the position you're applying for. Show genuine interest in working there. Sometimes a cover letter becomes decisive in deciding whether to invite a candidate for an interview.
