How to Remove a Bathtub

Removing a bathtub is something that has to happen at times. Before you start to do the work, it is important that you know how to remove the bathtub without creating a huge problem in the bathroom that is going to require the help of a professional to complete the work. For this to happen, you should use a guide to make sure you are able to take the bathtub out of the bathroom without having any problems with the tub coming out or any huge damage piles being left behind in the bathroom from the work you just did.

The first step you will want to do is to turn off any of the water that is going to the bathtub. This is typically done by using the shut off valves that are located on the pipes below the manifold, but if there is a chance the pipes could be broken below the cut off valve, then the entire bathroom water should be cut off at the closets shut off valve. Doing this will help keep the water from leaking in the room when the tub is taken out.

After the water has been turned off you have to take down any of the enclosure walls that are keeping the tub locked in its space. With most stand alone tubs they will have a half wall that is going to keep the tub in the same place, but with a tub and shower combination it will be a bit more of a challenge because the show head can be harder to remove. However, taking out the walls is going to allow people to have the right working space to get the tub out of the spot.

The next step is to disconnect all of the pipes from the tub. This includes the drain pipe, which can be hard to get to because of where it is located and the pipes that are going up to the manifold. This will allow you to pull the tub out without having to worry about breaking any of the pipes that are connected to the tub, which would lead to quite a bit more work.

Breaking the caulking is going to be one of the last steps to remove the bathtub out of the bathroom. With this, the tub is not the only thing that will be removed out of the bathroom but all of its components as well. Be reminded that the tub can weigh quite a bit and if not lifted properly can lead to back problems for people who are pulling the tub. It is therefore important to mind your posture when pulling the tub out of the bathroom.

Removing a bathtub is something that has to happen at times. This is when the knowledge on how to do this comes in handy. Without this, you could struggle to get the tub out of the bathroom and even if you can get the rub out, the bathroom in its entirety is a complete mess and needs to be replaced because of the damage that was done to the bathroom when you are getting the older tub out.
