It is important for home owner to keep their home in safe condition. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency highly advises home owners to test their homes safety for lead paint dust. The test is usually done after your home is renovated or remodeled. According to the new regulation, Remodelers Company has the obligation to inform the home owners of the option above. This regulation is set by newly revised Renovate Right Booklet. If you want to get more information on the regulation, you can download the booklet from the EPA.
Due to the pressure of Congress and NAHB-led coalition, EPA was forced to back away from the clearance testing in the recent amendment to the Lead: Renovation, Repair, and Painting Rule. The latest revision is made as the best method from EPA to encourage the consumers to choose it instead of stopping at the cleaning verification which professional remodelers are needed to perform the notes NAHB environmental policy Analyst Matt Watkins. According to RRP rule, remodelers, windows installers, and other contractors have to distribute the Renovate Right booklet to their clients including property owners and tenants living in homes which were built before 1978 before they can begin the remodeling project.
The remodelers and contractors who have made the printing copies of April 2012 version must download the latest version from EPA website. The new version is required to be compliant with the law. The revision can be seen on page 10 where it stated “For Property Owner: After the Work is Done”. This regulation includes the topic on lead-dust testing which needs the attention of the recipient “lead-dust testing”.
There is also rule for the distribution of Renovate Right Booklet. The distribution should be done within 60-days before remodeling project begins. The number of the booklet distributed is no less than seven. If the remodelers are working in common area of multifamily building, they have the obligation to post the copy of Renovate Right at the job site. As another option, the booklet can be distributed to all residents. The rule is a bit different for daycare centers or other child-occupied faculties where the booklets have to be posted or distributed to the parents or guardians.
Renovate Right Booklet offers the information on what people should do after renovating process is done. After the renovating process is done, remodelers and Renovation Company usually only perform the cleaning verification procedure. By using the new revision, the customers are able to have the option of lead-dust testing.
