If you love spending time at the beach, why not create a beach bedroom that can let you have that day-at -the-beach feeling any time of day or night, any day of the year? With just a little paint and a few well chosen accessories, you can have a private getaway where you can calm your nerves and enjoy total relaxation. Read on to learn how to create your own beach bedroom.
Choose your color palette. This should be easy as nature will show you the way. Look for shades of white, lavender and blue for walls, trim and ceilings. Don’t be afraid to be creative. The seaside is not all one color, and your walls and ceilings needn’t be either. Follow the patterns of nature to create a blue sky, a vast, bright horizon, a sandy shore and the feel of depths of blue. Cover your floor with a sandy tan carpet or natural jute floor covering.
Your furnishings should be few. They should be light in both color and style to give the sense of a bright, sunshiny day. Choose natural materials as much as possible, such as wicker, rattan, driftwood, woven cord (as in a hammock). Furnishings in white, pale beige and tan and very pale yellow will pull off the beach feeling very nicely. Arrange your furnishings in an open, uncluttered way that lets you enjoy abundant light and air. It goes without saying that your bed should be positioned to enjoy sunshine, moonlight and a pleasant breeze.
If your room does not receive abundant sunlight, take care to purchase light bulbs that give off natural, full spectrum light. Be careful to avoid glare. Your light should be even and comfortable. Placing timers on your lights to have them automatically brighten and dim with the corresponding hours of the day will give your room a very natural and carefree feeling.
Your bedding and your window dressings should allow you to enjoy the lightness of a day at the beach and the absolute peace of darkness away from artificial lights and the business of the city at night. Choose sheets, pillowcases and sheers for your windows in white, pale beige, pale yellow or a very, very pale blue. Choose heavier drapes and a comforter in a deep, rich royal blue reminiscent of the sea.
Decorate with care for an authentic beach bedroom appearance. Avoid kitschy accessories like seashell clocks and fishy wall hangings. Instead, carefully select a few (one or two) large, perfect shells or pieces of driftwood. Choose posters and wall hangings that are beautiful and authentic and match your color scheme perfectly. A realistic beach mural can add depth and realism to your beach bedroom setting.
If you are good with pets and desire it, add a lovely saltwater aquarium for the soothing presence of the fish and the water. Plants that can be found near or at the seaside are another nice touch. Indoor palm trees are surprisingly easy to keep.
Keep your day-at-the-beach ambiance pure by tucking items that don’t match your theme out of sight in drawers and closets. Get a white noise generator that plays ocean sounds and/or select seaside music to play quietly in your room. If you love seaside bonfires, look into a small electric fireplace for wintertime. They come in a wide variety of sizes and designs and produce a very realistic effect.
Approach your beach bedroom project with a light heart and an open mind. Use your imagination, and you will soon be relaxing on the beach every single day and night.
